The Princeton Tigers (8-3 overall, 0-0 Ivy League) defeated the Villanova Wildcats (6-4 overall, 0-0 Big East) in a thrilling 59-56 win on the road. Kaitlyn Chen led the way for the Tigers with a career-high 31 points, while Ellie Mitchell added 19 rebounds.

The game was close throughout, with the teams trading the lead multiple times. Chen’s three-pointer and jumper with 2:01 left in the game gave Princeton a 57-56 lead, and they would hold on for the victory.

Mitchell was essential to Princeton’s victory on the boards. She had 19 rebounds, including 11 offensive rebounds. Her ability to crash the glass helped Princeton get second-chance opportunities and kept the Wildcats off the offensive glass.

The Tigers also played strong defense on Villanova’s best player, Lucy Olsen. Olsen is the third-highest scorer in the nation, averaging 24.9 points per game, but she was held to 17 points on 6-of-17 shooting.

“We knew that Olsen wasn’t just gonna be a one person responsibility since they play four guards,” Mitchell said to the ‘Prince.’ “So, we were gonna be switching a lot, so we all had to know each player really well and be ready to contain whoever we got switched onto.”

The Tigers will look to continue their momentum when they host Rutgers on Wednesday.
